FRIENDS honoring two Special People and one Local Non-Profit on May 4, 2018

February 12th, 2018 | FCJC East Hawaii

The FRIENDS couldn’t do all they do without the help of many people and organizations in our East Hawaii community.  The FRIENDS are again honoring two people and one organization during this year’s 3rd Annual Gala on Friday, May 4, 2018 beginning at 5:30pm. at the
Moku’ola Room in the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Mitch Roth, Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney, represents a critical part of helping to end child abuse on our beautiful island. Most notably, Mitch has brought the end to the tragic story of Peter Boy Kema. Mitch’s commitment to pursue justice with Integrity is helping to make a difference in the fight against the crime of child abuse.

The Rotary Club of Hilo has been a part of the FRIENDS from day one in 1988. When a representative from Oahu came seeking help in establishing a Center in Hilo for the investigations of child abuse, this Club was instrumental in beginning the non-profit organization that became the FRIENDS. Our first FRIENDS’ President came from this Rotary Club. And for several years now, the FRIENDS have been one of only two beneficiaries of the club’s annual Hilo Brewfest.

Geoffrey Casburn, one of our super FRIENDS’ volunteers, helps the FRIENDS organization in many, many ways every week.  Sorting and organizing the FRIENDS’ Clothes Closet is a daunting task which Geoff tackles with enthusiasm and a cheerful demeanor. Another dedicated volunteer who makes the work of the FRIENDS possible with only one paid staff member.
