What is the 24 Hour Emergency Clothes Closet?

The 24-Hour Emergency Clothes Closet isn’t just a closet with clothing! It’s a “Closet” that also provides a child friendly space that helps to comfort keiki as they are moving to a new environment.

Going to a new place can be scary and very uncomfortable. The hope is that the Closet visit begins a supportive chapter as children transition to a new situation.

Who has access to the Closet?

Child Protective Services, Hawaii Police Department, Hawaii Fire Department, Social Workers through Social Service Agencies, and the Children’s Justice Center of East Hawaii.

Persons needing access may set up an appointment with our Executive Director, Robin, at (808) 935-8755 or via email at fcjceh@fcjceh.org.

Where is the 24 Hour Emergency Clothes Closet located?

The Clothes Closet is located 498 Laupaku Street in Hilo. The Closet is located in a small building behind the main office hale.

How do I donate items to the Closet and What kind of clothing donations are we looking for?

Please donate new or lightly used, in-trend kids clothing. Please, nothing older than 5 years, if donating used clothing.

Most especially needed are new underwear packets (all sizes and genders) and new “rubbah” slippers.

Diapers of all sizes and wipes are always needed.

Some additional things to consider donating are clothing, footwear, hygiene supplies, and small totes or duffel bags.

Dropping off items

We accept donations at the main office on weekdays, between 8:00am and 1:30pm.

Things to note

From time to time, the FRIENDS will hold a clothing drive to resupply the Closet. We will post announcements for this on our Facebook page!
